So I had a conversation the other day with a group of moms that really got me thinking, Why do people mommy bash?
Mommy bashing is people saying that what you are doing as a parent, specifically moms, is wrong. If you breastfeed you are disgusting. If you feed formula you don't love your child enough. If you use disposable diapers you are an earth hater. If you use cloth diapers you are a hippy and gross. The list goes on and on. No matter what you do, you are wrong.
But why? Why does it have to be all or nothing when it comes to parenting? Why can't I do what I feel is right for my family and you do what is right for yours? I think it's so silly and getting ridiculous. I may be all for what I do as a parent because I like it and think it works, but that doesn't mean every mom should do it because I said so. It seems everyone is so concerned with what everyone else is doing and getting in a tizzy if someone says something about what they are doing.
I even find myself being cautious in public for fear of someone saying something. But why? Why should I? I shouldn't be scared to do what I want with my children. I'm not abusing them, I'm simply parenting differently. Yes, sometimes I do yell, which I hate, but I do. Yes, I give my kids french fries and chips. No, I'm not perfect and neither are you. We shouldn't have to fear parenting and we shouldn't have to be bullied by others for the way we parent.
And on another note, what happened to group parenting? When I was growing up my friends parents were just as likely to discipline me as my mom was. Now a days if you even say something little to a kid you are yelled at and threatened. What is the world coming to?
I hope one day soon people realize how silly they are being and we start acting better. Not only for our sake, but our kids.
